How to get high school kids across a busy 4-lane highway safely?
Pedestrian Safety at the Kihei High School is an issue. They should just build a pedestrian overpass, so easy to do. Here is one idea for a bicycle friendly overpass:
Here is a close up. The site for the overpass is an area with higher elevation on both sides of the Highway, This keeps the construction costs down, and makes it easier to get across.
Building this with no stairs, makes it accessible for bicycles and even wheelchairs perhaps, using the existing terrain gives the overpass a less steep “arch”. It can be aesthetically appealing also. Our planners just need a little bit of imagination and initiative to achieve this.
